The Ultimate Travel Attire

This is just a short little observation I had while on my way to and from Madagascar. In short. When you travel, wear something recognizable.

Now I don't mean, that you should all go out and buy some outlandishly garish costume that customs officials can't see behind for all the loud colors. Rather I mean make yourself in any and all ways relatable. For me this means donning my blue and red Superman shirt.

Yes folks, I have found that not even the most belligerent and unhappy of French customs officials are totally unaffected by the placating effects of a well-recognized pop-culture icon.

Simple in its implementation, astounding in its efficacy. I was amazed over and over again at the cordiality afforded me by certain of the French as we scowled at each other in mutual admiration for the awesomeness of my shirt.

Okay, not entirely true. The French are still inordinately rude and unkind to all Americans, and my affectation of a phony French accent only made matter worse (don't ask). But still there were a few half-smiles and that one nod of appreciation as I passed through the Charles de Gaul Airport that made me feel just a little more welcome than I would have normally.

So take the advice of a newly-christened world-traveler. Wear your Spider-man, your Batman, your Superman, your Green lantern (for the ladies Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Hello Kitty,) and walk proudly through each airport smiling and confident that you are appreciated for your boldness.
